Amerciana Pineapple

This is an americana pineapple that I finished for my front door for after the Holidays. It did not turn out as grungy as I would like, but after I paint something I have a hard time getting it any darker. Anyone have any ideas for a darker stain that will go over paint? Dh says it does not look like a pineapple, what do you think?

How cool! Great job, Debbi!! I think it looks good. But, if you wanted it darker, you could try antiquing medium, brown shoe polish, or Kitchen Bouquet. You could probably even try a real stain, but that might make it stinky. It looks like a pineapple to me--what do men know anyway?o)

Barb, what is Kitchen Bouquet? I never heard of that. I tried some of my floor stain that I have left over on the back of the pineapple but it got too dark. lol..I always tell dh he just doesn't get it when it comes to decorating..lol

Kitchen Bouquet is a browning and seasoning sauce for stews, soups, and gravies. I think you can find it in the spice and seasonings section of a grocery store. My friend happened to own a restaurant and gave me a huge bottle of it, so that's why I'm not sure where in the grocery store you'd find it. I suppose you could ask someone who works there:) You don't need a lot (a "little" capful) for staining, because it will get really dark if you don't dilute it with enough water. There is no smell to it, which is nice for people who don't like the coffee/cinnamon smell (but, who wouldn't like that smell--that's my favorite thing about the grungy stuff).
